On Hand
Definition:
On Hand refers to the current quantity of a product physically available in your bar or restaurant — what you actually have in stock at any given moment.
In Context:
“On Hand” is a foundational inventory concept. In Spec, every product has a live On Hand value, which is updated automatically when you complete a Stock Count. This number is critical for calculating Inventory Value, generating accurate Order to Par suggestions, and avoiding stockouts or overordering.
On Hand values are expressed in numbers of Product Formats, and should always reflect usable, sellable stock.
Example:
If you have 4 full bottles of gin and 1 bottle that’s half full, your On Hand is 4.5 units. Spec records this and uses it to determine whether you're under or over your Par Level.
Pro Tip:
Train your team to count partial bottles accurately — consistency in On Hand tracking leads to better COGS accuracy, fewer surprises, and tighter controls.
